Rhinebeck Writers Retreat presents an invitation-only reading of Assisted—Adam Chanler-Berat and Julian Hornik's musical developed at the retreat's Triple R program—May 23 in Manhattan.

The two writers were awarded two readings and a residency for the development of Assisted. This first reading features Peter Friedman (Ragtime, Succession), Mary Beth Peil (Anastasia, The Good Wife), Barbara Walsh (Falsettos), Tina Fabrique (Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk), Keilly McQuail (Orange Is the New Black), Stephen Bogardus (Falsettos), and Samantha Williams (Dear Evan Hansen).

Assisted follows Richard, a playwright embarking on a docu-theatre project set in the memory care unit of an assisted living facility. As Richard's work progresses, he grows closer to his interview subjects, and faces destabilizing truths about himself and the facility. 

Annie Tippe (Octet) directs the reading with music direction by Simone Allen. Joey Monda serves as general manager. 

Created in 2011, Rhinebeck Writers Retreat provides week-long residencies for musical theatre writers to focus solely on writing their musicals in New York's Hudson Valley. Musicals developed at the retreat include Bekah Brunstetter and Cinco Paul's A.D. 16, Mike Lew's Bhangra Nation, Kyle Jarrow and Duncan Sheik's Noir, and more.
