Company originally opened on Broadway in April 1970 and ran for over 700 performances. The cast included Dean Jones, Elaine Stritch, Barbara Barrie, Charles Braswell, Susan Browning, George Coe, Cathy Corkill, John Cunningham, Steve Elmore, Carol Gelfand, Beth Howland, Charles Kimbrough, Merle Louise, Donna McKechnie, Pamela Myers, Teri Ralston, Marilyn Saunders and Dona D. Vaughn. Larry Kert replaced Jones in the role of Bobby early in the run. The musical garnered 14 Tony Award nominations (the record until The Producers in 2001), winning six, including Best Musical.

Company received Broadway revivals in 1995 and 2006 and has been staged frequently in regional and international theatres.

Set in New York, Company, follows "five married, once-married, and soon-to-be-married couples and their mutual friend," Robert, "a bachelor who has been unable to connect in a long-term relationship." The relationships are presented in a series of vignettes, primarily through Robert’s eyes. The show's songs include "Company," "Side by Side by Side," "The Ladies Who Lunch," "Another Hundred People" and "Being Alive."
