The birthday festivities were followed by a post-performance talk-back for Martin Luther King Day with Alfred Uhry and David Esbjornson, moderated by producer Jed Bernstein.
Here is a look at the onstage surprise:
The series will continue on Wednesday nights in February in honor of Black History Month. That first talkback, on Feb. 2, will feature CBS News correspondent Michelle Miller and her husband, National Urban League President and former New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial. Additional talkback participants will be announced shortly.
Driving Miss Daisy stars Vanessa Redgrave, James Earl Jones and Boyd Gaines. In addition to director Esbjornson, the creative team features scenic designer John Lee Beatty, costume designer Jane Greenwood, lighting designer Peter Kaczorowski, projection designer Wendall K. Harrington, sound designer Christopher Cronin and composer Mark Bennett.
The revival is currently playing at the Golden Theatre. For more information and tickets, visit daisyonbroadway.com.
