Blanche (Glenn Close) is brutalized by the cruel, but sexual Stanley (Iain Glen) in A Streetcar Named Desire, which opens Oct. 8 at London's National Theatre.

Tennesee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire dramatizes a to-the-death conflict between the fragile world of false gentility and manners as embodied by the mentally unstable faded Southern belle Blanche (Close), and the practical but brutishly crude world personified by the primitive, animalistic Stanley (Iain Glen). Streetcar plays through Nov. 23 at the National Theatre.
