2000 Tony Award-winning director-choreographer Susan Stroman (Contact, The Producers), pictured with fellow helmer Scott Ellis, was awarded the 2000 Japanese Musical Award Jan. 10. Her award package comprises a silver Tiffany bowl and a $10,000 honorarium, half of which is customarily presented to a nonprofit organization of the recipient's choice. The Japanese Musical Awards are determined by a jury of 11 Japanese theatre critics and professionals.
The Lion King director Julie Taymor took home the honor in 1999.
