JoAnne Akalaitis directs the new outdoor production of the Greek tragedy "about what happens when a government attempts to outlaw desire," as show notes describe. The show features a choral score by Philip Glass. The ensemble also features April Armstrong, George Bartenieff, Sullivan Corey, Marisa Echeverría, Tara Hugo, Jennifer Ikeda, Karen Kandel, Jennifer Nikki Kidwell, Alexa Kryzaniwsky, Vella Lovell, Joan MacIntosh, Nana Mensah, Steven Rishard, Ereni Sevasti, Elena Shaddow, Rocco Sisto and Han Tang.
The production will include Bernstein’s incidental music for Lillian Hellman’s adaptation of The Lark, and Menotti’s The Unicorn, The Gorgon, and The Manticore.
