Part of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's "Green Light for Manhattan" plan, the initiative began Memorial Day weekend with the diversion of automobile traffic in Times Square and the temporary placement of lawn chairs. (Take a look back the original changes to the thoroughfare in Playbill.com's Photo Gallery.) The new phase of the transformation has placed a more aesthetic surface over the street pavement as well as red and gray folding chairs, umbrellas, café tables and planters.
