The Public Lab production of Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus, starring Jay O. Sanders, officially opened Off-Broadway Dec. 13 at the Public Theater.

Michael Sexton directs the drama about the famed Roman general, which will run through Dec. 18. Previews began Nov. 29.

Sanders, whose frequent Public Theater appearances include Sweet and Sad and A Midsummer Night's Dream, stars in the title role. He is joined by Rob Campbell (The Singing Forest) as Lucius, Patrick Carroll (Good People) as Chiron/Voice of Quintus, Frank Dolce (Billy Elliot) as Young Lucius, Jacob Fishel (Macbeth) as Saturninus, William Jackson Harper (Ruined) as Demetrius/Voice of Martius, Sherman Howard (All My Sons) as Marcus, Jennifer Ikeda (Top Girls, The Bacchae) as Lavinia, Ron Cephas Jones (Motherf**ker with the Hat) as Aaron, Daoud Heidami (Aftermath) as Bassianus/Publius/Aemilius/Nurse and Stephanie Roth Haberle (Cymbeline, Les Liaisons Dangereuses) as Tamora.

The production has scenic design by Brett Banakis, costume design by Cait O’Connor, lighting design by Mark Barton, and music and sound design by Brandon Wolcott. According to the Public, "Titus is Rome’s greatest general and the head of a noble Roman family. When his armies vanquish the Goths, their defeated queen unleashes a fury that rocks Titus’s city, devastates his children, and shatters his sense of self. The cycle of revenge is shocking, bloody, and all-encompassing, but expressed through poetry and theatricality as vivid, energized, and thrilling as anything in Shakespeare’s later works."

The Public Lab will continue in 2012 with The Total Bent, from Tony Award winner Stew and his Passing Strange collaborator Heidi Rodewald.

All Public Lab productions are $15. Phone (212) 967-7555 or visit PublicTheater. The Public Theater is located at 425 Lafayette Street in Manhattan.
