News PHOTO CALL: Tony Award-Winning War Horse Conquers Toronto Feb. 10 The Toronto production of War Horse, the Tony and Olivier Award-winning international hit based on Michael Morpurgo's novel of the same title, began performances Feb. 10 at the Princess of Wales Theatre.

Newcomer Alex Furber takes on the role of Albert Narracott while Stratford Festival veteran Brad Rudy plays Ted Narracott, with Tamara Bernier-Evans as Rose Narracott, Richard McMillan as Arthur Narracott and Patrick Galligan as Friedrich Muller.

The cast also includes Steven Yaffe as Billy Narracott, Melanie Doane as Song Person #1 and Tatjana Cornij as Song Person #2. The acting ensemble includes Neil Foster, Bruce Godfree, Ryan Hollyman, Cara Hunter, David Hurwitz, Araya Mengesha, Brendan Murray, Brian Paul, Geoffrey Pounsett, Dylan Roberts and Brendan Wall.

Here's how the creators bill the work: "England, 1914. As World War I begins, Joey, young Albert’s beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. He’s soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary journey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in No Man’s Land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, though not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to find his horse and bring him home."
