Brimstone, the Irish political musical with music by Patrick Meegan and book and lyrics by Mary Bracken Phillips, makes its west coast premiere at The Willows Theatre Company in Concord, CA, Sept. 28-31, opening Oct. 2.
Set in 1988 in Belfast, Brimstone tells the story of Eamon Dunne, a young architect who returns from America to attend the funeral of his brother, a suspected IRA terrorist. At the funeral, he runs into his childhood sweetheart, Maired, who's a hardline Irish Revolutionary. She suggests the bombing of the Royal Hall of Justice in retribution for the brother's slaying.
Irish-based composer, Meegan (Switchblades ) will be in residence for the production. Phillips received a 1992 Tony nomination for her lyrics to the Polish import, Broadway flop Metro.
Brimstone is directed by Richard Elliot, with sets by Andrea Bechert, costumes by Karen Knoll, lighting by Chris Guptill, and sound by John Koss.
