Denver Center Theatre Company again produces the intimate show, which went on to be one of the most-produced titles in American regional theatres in the 1980s.

Director Penny Metropulos' new cast at DCTC's The Stage Theatre is led by original Quilters touring company member and popular Denver actress Kathleen M. Brady as Sarah.

The acting ensemble includes DCTC company member Christine Rowan and, appearing on Denver Center stages for the first time, Victoria Adams-Zischke, Susannah Flood, Kara Lindsay, Linda Mugleston (Young Frankenstein, Wonderful Town on Broadway) and Jeff Skowron (Broadway's The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast).

Opening is May 28.

* DCTC presented the show's world premiere in fall 1982. Quilters made it to Broadway in 1984 and earned six 1985 Tony Award nominations including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Score.

Quilters has music and lyrics by Barbara Damashek and book by Damashek and Newman based on "The Quilters: Women and Domestic Art" by Patricia Cooper and Norma Bradley Allen.

According to DCTC, "Quilters was inspired by the real life diaries and letters of pioneer women in the American West, written as they braved the dangers and hardships of life on the frontier — a loving patchwork stitched together with music, moments of vibrant and passionate drama, joy, laughter and tears."

The musical director is Sterling Tinsley. Associate music director and conductor is Deborah Schmidt-Lobis.

"Inspired by early photographs of the stark Western prairie and wide, empty horizon," the design is created by scenic designer William Bloodgood, costume designer Constanza Romero, lighting designer Don Darnutzer and sound designer Craig Breitenbach.

Dramaturgy for Quilters is by Douglas Langworthy.
