Classic Arts News Rattle Berlin Phil Mahler 9th Airs Jan. 7 on PBS's Great Performances One of the centerpieces of Carnegie Hall's "Berlin in Lights" festival last month was Simon Rattle conducting the Berlin Philharmonic in Mahler's Ninth Symphony. That performance will also be the centerpiece of "Carnegie Hall Celebrates Berlin," a special program airing next month on the PBS series Great Performances.
In addition to the Mahler concert, "Carnegie Hall Celebrates Berlin" will cover other events at the festival, notably the widely-hailed performance of Bart‹k's Concerto for Orchestra by conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the Sim‹n Bol‹var Youth Orchestra of Venezuela.

"Carnegie Hall Celebrates Berlin" will air on PBS beginning on January 7; check your local listings for the exact date and time in your area.

Between now and then, Great Performances presents two favorites: the 2005 special "Ren_e Fleming: Sacred Songs and Carols" on Christmas Eve, and the annual New Year's Day concert by the Vienna Philharmonic, this year conducted by Georges Prê_tre. Again, check your local listings.
