Classic Arts News Ravinia Festival Announces Jazz Lineup The Ravinia Festival's Jazz in June mini-festival, June 16-19, will feature Chick Corea, McCoy Tyner, Dave Brubeck, and an evening of big bands, the Illinois festival announced.
The big-band night will include trumpeter Irvin Mayfield's New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Star Big Band, the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, and pianist Toshiko Akioshi.

Corea will perform with his group Touchstone on a program with saxophonist Branford Marsalis and his father, pianist Ellis Marsalis. Brubeck headlines a concert with two other pianists. Marian McPartland and Ramsey Lewis. Lewis, the festival's artistic director of jazz, and Tyner are featured in an evening of jazz, gospel, and dance with tap star Savion Glover and the James Memorial Sanctuary Choir.

The festival's summer-long pop schedule also includes some jazz-influenced artists, including Tony Bennett, Al Jarreau, Cassandra Wilson, and the Rippingtons. Sylvia McNair, the operatic soprano turned pop chanteuse, will appear in Ravinia's standards series, Martinis at the Martin.
