Classic Arts News Ren_e Fleming's 'Sacred Songs' TV Special to Be Rebroadcast on PBS Dec. 20 "Ren_e Fleming: Sacred Songs and Carols," a PBS Great Performances holiday special first telecast in 2005, will be given an encore presentation this year on December 20 (check local listings).
Recorded live at Mainz Cathedral in Germany, the program features the soprano accompanied by the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, conducted by Trevor Pinnock. The music, much of which is featured on Fleming's 2005 Decca Classics disc entitled Sacred Songs, includes "Rejoice Greatly" from Handel's Messiah, "L'Adieu des bergers" from Berlioz's L'Enfance du Christ, "Laudate Dominum" from Mozart's Mass in C minor, Schubert's "Ave Maria," and "Simple Song" from Leonard Bernstein's Mass.
