Did their hearts love til now? The reviews are in for the West End minimalist revival of Romeo & Juliet starring Tom Holland (Spider-Man) and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers.

The production opened at London's Duke of York's Theatre May 23. The limited run is scheduled to continue through August 3. Jamie Lloyd (the upcoming Sunset Boulevard Broadway revival) is directing for his newly independent production company, The Jamie Lloyd Company.

The cast also includes Freema Agyeman as Nurse, Michael Balogun as Friar, Tomiwa Edun as Capulet, Mia Jerome as Montague, Daniel Quinn-Toye as Paris, Ray Sesay as Tybalt, Nima Taleghani as Benvolio, and Joshua-Alexander Williams as Mercutio. Callum Heinrich and Kody Mortimer are camera operators, with understudies and swings Harriet Bunton, Nathaniel Christian, Shardé Neikaiya, and Philip Olagoke rounding out the company.

Holland, now a rising film star perhaps best known as the current Spider-Man, got his professional start on stage in the West End production of Billy Elliot The Musical, playing Billy's friend Michael and later the title role. Romeo & Juliet is Holland's second West End outing.

The production features text editing by Nima Taleghani, set and costume design by Soutra Gilmour, lighting design by Jon Clark, sound design by Ben and Max Ringham, video design and cinematography by Nathan Amzi and Joe Ransom, music by Michael 'Mikey J' Asante, movement by Sarah Golding and Yukiko Masui (Say), and intimacy coordination by Ingrid Mackinnon. Casting is by Stuart Burt.

The revival is produced by The Jamie Lloyd Company and David Binder Productions.

Romeo & Juliet seems to be getting a resurgence. A Broadway revival is coming in the fall with a completely different team, with Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler as the star-crossed lovers.
