News Richard III, Starring Kevin Spacey, Will Play San Francisco in October Kevin Spacey's turn as the "bunch-back'd toad," Richard III, directed by Sam Mendes and booked for international engagements in the coming months, will play the Curran Theatre in San Francisco Oct. 19-29, producers announced on Aug. 8.

The new Bridge Project production of the Shakespeare play is co-commissioned by and produced in association with Athens & Epidaurus Festival, Centro Niemeyer Spain, Hong Kong Arts Festival, Istanbul Theatre Festival (IKSV) & Istanbul Municipal Theatres, Kay & McLean Productions, Singapore Repertory Theatre and SHN – Carole Shorenstein Hays and Robert Nederlander.

The newly announced San Francisco run is among 11 locations around the world that have been chosen to host the production; the schedule includes London, Epidaurus, Hong Kong, Aviles, Spain, Istanbul, Beijing, Singapore, Sydney and New York (Brooklyn Academy of Music). The Bridge Project's Richard IIII is currently playing to sold out crowds at London's Old Vic Theatre.

The Curran Theatre is the only U.S. venue, other than BAM in New York, to host the revival. Tickets for the Curran run go on sale Aug. 19.

The Bridge Project "is a unique three-year series of co-productions by BAM, The Old Vic, and Neal Street, devoted to producing large-scale, classical theatre for international audiences."

Spacey is artistic director of The Old Vic in London. Richard III opened at The Old Vic on June 29. The Bridge Project is directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes with whom Spacey worked on the film "American Beauty," for which they both won BAFTA and Academy Awards. The company features another blended British/American cast that includes Maureen Anderman as the Duchess of York; Haydn Gwynne as Queen Elizabeth; Chuk Iwuji as Duke of Buckingham; Gemma Jones as Queen Margaret; and Chandler Williams as George, Duke of Clarence.
