News Ricki Lake and Marissa Jaret Winokur Will Appear in Hairspray Live! Two original Tracy Turnblads will make cameo appearances in the NBC broadcast December 7.

Marissa Jaret Winokur, who originated the role of Hairspray’s Tracy Turnblad on Broadway and won a Tony Award for her performance, and Ricki Lake, who first brought that character to life in the 1988 John Waters film, will make cameo appearances in NBC’s Hairspray Live!

Winokur and Lake shared the news in an interview with People. It was not revealed how they will be featured. The live broadcast will star newcomer Maddie Baillio in the lead role.

Hairspray stars Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein, recreating his Tony-winning Broadway role as Edna Turnblad, as well as Kristin Chenoweth as Velma Von Tussle, Andrea Martin as Prudy Pingleton, Ariana Grande as Penny Pingleton, Ephraim Sykes as Seaweed J. Stubbs, Shahadi Wright Joseph as Little Inez, Sean Hayes as Mr. Pinky, Rosie O’Donnell as the gym teacher, Paul Vogt as Mr. Spritzer, Derek Hough as Corny Collins, Garrett Clayton as Link Larkin, Martin Short as Wilbur Turnblad, Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson as Motormouth Maybelle, and newcomer Baillio as Tracy Turnblad.

As previously reported, the second act opening number on Broadway, “The Big Dollhouse,” has been cut from the live broadcast. Numbers written specifically for the 2007 musical film that have been added to the NBC live broadcast include “Ladies’ Choice” and “Come So Far (Got So Far to Go)”; “The New Girl in Town” and “Big, Blonde, and Beautiful (Reprise),” songs added to the 2007 film, did not make the cut for the NBC live show.
