Experimental theatre director Robert Wilson of the U.S. Won the $8,600 Europe Prize for Theatre Jan. 5, Variety reported. Wilson, known for his stagings of A Letter to Queen Victoria, ciVil warS and other works, was given the award in Taormina, Italy, for "stimulating interest in drama and for his versatility in a variety of genres," the report said.
Wilson, 55, lives in Texas. Previous winners include Giorgio Strehler of the Piccolo Teatro de Milano.
