Lerner & Loewe, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Adler & Ross, Webber & Rice, Kander & Ebb and George & Ira Gershwin -- those are the beloved teams whose music is being heard this summer season at Sacramento Light Opera Association's Music Circus. Now in its 48th year in its tent style arena theatre, SLOA opened its season July 13 (with Crazy For You) and runs to Aug. 30.
Here are other the upcoming musicals:
The Tony-Winning musical comedy, The Pajama Game, by Richard Adler & Jerry Ross. Romance blooms between a shop superintendant and a union leader in this 1955 show about a threatened strike at the Sleep-Tite pajama factory. (July 20-26)
* Cabaret -- 1967's Tony winner, from the authors of Steel Pier and Kiss of the Spider Woman: John Kander and Fred Ebb. A major Broadway revival (directed by Sam Mendes) opened at the Kit Kat Klub this spring. (July 27-Aug. 2)
* Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat -- Before Evita, before Phantom, Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice cooked up this spoofy look at the biblical fable. (Aug. 3-9) * Brigadoon -- The Scottish town that awakens only once every hundred years. Lerner & Loewe's best-loved musical apart from their My Fair Lady. (Aug. 10-16)
* Seven Brides For Seven Brothers -- Seven Oregonian brothers seek love & housekeeping in this musical based on the 1954 MGM film. (Aug. 17-23)
* South Pacific -- From Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein, the tale of plucky Nellie Forbush falling for a French expatriate. Songs include "There Is Nothing Like A Dame" and "Some Enchanted Evening." (Aug. 24-30)
