CHICAGO -- Continuing Chicago's current trend of exploring plays about the Holocaust (recently initiated by Northlight Theatre's The Last Survivor and The Glass House and Circle Theatre's Auschwitz Lullaby, on April 19 the Apple Tree Theatre presents the Midwest premiere of Denial by Peter Sagal.

The play centers on a Jewish attorney who agrees to defend a controversial author who has taught that the Holocaust is a myth. The plot boils over when the professor dares to suppress a Holocaust survivor's memories of the dead by arguing that the Jews were not annihilated.

The play perilously balances two not altogether contradictory imperatives--freedom of expression versus the pursuit of truth. Eileen Boevers directs.
