Works by Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein and Roald Dahl head the list of shows scheduled by San Diego Junior Theatre for 1999-2000. The new season is the 52nd in the company's history.
The line-up includes the following productions: The Witches, based on the book by Roald Dahl (Oct. 22-Nov. 7); Great Expectations, a new adaptation of the Dickens classic (Jan. 4-23, 2000); Pippi Longstocking, based on the children's books by Astrid Lindgren (Feb. 25-March 12, 2000); The Music Man, the musical by Meredith Willson (April 14-30, 2000); Really Rosie, a musical by Maurice Sendak (July 7-16, 2000); and West Side Story, the Bernstein-Laurents adaptation of Romeo and Juliet (July 28-Aug. 6).
Two of the shows are San Diego premieres: Pippi Longstocking, seen for the first time outside of Minneapolis, where it originated; and The Witches, which will be performed for the first time ever in this country.
S.D. Junior Theatre's current season concludes July 30-Aug. 18 with a production of Crazy For You, directed by Steve Anthony.
