Classic Arts News San Diego Symphony Opens First Season with Music Director Jahja Ling The San Diego Symphony's season-opening gala tonight features Jahja Ling's debut as music director and performances by flutists James Galway and Jeanne Galway.
The evening's program includes Tchaikovsky's Waltz from Serenade, Charles Gounod's Petite Symphonie, and Giovanni Gabrieli's Canzona noni toni. The Galways will perform Domenica Cimarosa's Concerto for Two Flutes in G Major.

Ling is the former director of the Cleveland Orchestra's summer Blossom Festival and former music director for the Florida Orchestra in Tampa Bay. The orchestra's 14th music director since its founding in 1910, he signed a five-year contract in 2003.
