News Schooled Reading to Feature Michael Cerveris and Phoebe Strole Tony Award winner Michael Cerveris will be part of a private Nov. 15 reading of Lisa Lewis' new play Schooled, which examines the relationship between a young writer and her professor.

Sundance Institute Fellow Oliver Butler, who is the co-artistic director of The Debate Society, will stage the reading at the New Ohio Theatre in Manhattan. Matthew Schneider is the dramaturg.

Cerveris (Sweeney Todd, Assassins, Tommy), who will also star in the 2012 Broadway revival of Evita, will be joined by Phoebe Strole (Spring Awakening, The Metal Children), James Kautz (The Hallway Trilogy, Pied Pipers of the Lower East Side) and Mara Davi (Death Takes a Holiday, The Drowsy Chaperone).

Here's how Schooled is characterized: "Claire, a broke but ambitious young writer, tries to persuade her roguish professor to give her a grant that could jumpstart her career, but his interest in her prompts Claire’s privileged boyfriend to suspect she’s using more than her talent to get the award they both deserve. Full of devastating desires, loaded glances and surprising humor, Schooled is an examination of the lies we tell ourselves, and the truths we refuse to believe."

Lewis' plays also include Kiss and Makeup, Triple Cherry, Birdie and The Circumference of Sex. She has written for The New York Times and ELLE Magazine, and previously worked with New Line Cinema and as reader and analyst for Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal at Tribeca Productions.
