The 17th Annual 24 Hour Plays on Broadway, which present 10-minute plays created by all-star teams overnight, took place October 30 at the American Airlines Theatre. Proceeds from the event benefited The 24 Hour Plays programming, including The 24 Hour Plays: Nationals (a professional intensive for young artists), and The Lilly Awards Foundation's work supporting women in theatre and promoting gender parity.

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Marsha Norman (’night, Mother; The Secret Garden) was honored during the evening as part of the organization’s partnership with The Lilly Awards.

The marathon process for The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway began at 10 PM October 29. The writers, directors, actors, and production staff, including Rachel Dratch, Miriam Shor, and more, were asked to share one costume piece, one prop, a special skill, and to reveal something that they have always wanted to do onstage. Using this as inspiration, the writers spent the night developing 10-minute plays, with rehearsals set to begin at 9 AM October 30 for an 8 PM performance.
