News   Seth Numrich to Return to London Stage in Fathers and Sons at Donmar Warehouse
Seth Numrich, the Broadway actor who was named Best Newcomer in the Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2013 for his London debut in Sweet Bird of Youth at the Old Vic, is to return to the London stage to star in Brian Friel's Fathers and Sons, beginning performances June 5 prior to an official opening June 10, for a run through July 26.

According to press materials, the play, based on Ivan Turgenev's novel, reveals a new world in conflict with the old, the uneasiness of clashing generations and the difficulty of staying radical as you move through life. In the play, two young men arrive at a country estate, fresh from university: one, the son of the landowner, the other a brilliant and charismatic radical, proclaiming a dangerous new philosophy. But their warm welcome cools as the new house guest attacks the values of his hosts, bringing to the surface the tensions between one generation and the next. Over the course of a summer, political ideals are tested by filial duty and the arrival of Anna, a mysterious visitor whose presence stirs the heart and threatens a friendship.

Lyndsey Turner, who won the 2014 Olivier Award for Best Director for her production of Chimerica, directs a cast that also includes Anthony Calf, Elaine Cassidy, Caoilfhionn Dunne (returning to the Donmar following her 2013 Evening Standard Best Newcomer Award-nominated performance in The Night Alive), Susan Engel, David Fielder, Joshua James, Karl Johnson, Tim McMullan, Jack McMullen, Siobhán McSweeney, Phoebe Sparrow and Lindy Whiteford.

The production will be designed by Rob Howell, with lighting by James Farncombe, sound by Carolyn Downing and music composed by Alex Baranowski.

Numrich made his Broadway debut in The Merchant of Venice at the Broadhurst Theatre, and has also appeared on Broadway in War Horse and Golden Boy. His films include "Private Romeo" and "How to Kill A Mockingbird," and he has also appeared on TV in "Turn" and "Gravity."
