News Shanley to Receive Writers Guild's Lifetime Achievement Award Tony Award winner John Patrick Shanley, who was recently nominated for an Academy Award for the screenplay adaptation of his Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning play Doubt, will be honored by the Writers Guild of America East.

Variety reports that Shanley will be presented with the Ian McLellan Hunter Award for Lifetime Achievement in Writing at the Feb. 7 WGA Awards at New York's Hudson Theatre. WGA East president Michael Winship said in a statement, "The choice of John Patrick Shanley to receive the Hunter Award honors a scenarist and playwright whose artistry and craftsmanship have created a standard of excellence to which all members of the Writers Guild of America East can aspire."

Shanley is also nominated for Writers Guild Award for his "Doubt" screenplay. He won a WGA award for his screenplay for "Moonstruck."
