Shaw Festival of Niagara on the Lake. Ontario, Canada has released a world premiere recording of the music originally commissioned by the Shaw Festival for the '96 production of the Japanese thriller Rashomon.
Titled "The Rashomon Quartet" the music was composed by Shaw Festival Music director Christopher Donison and is performed by The Amati Quartet. The Amati Quartet comprise: Joseph Peleg (violin), Peggy MacGuire (violin), Mark Childs (viola), and David Miller.
Christopher Donison has composed original scores for a dozen plays the the Shaw Festival, and original orchestrations for many more.
Also on the CD are: Schubert's Quartet-Satz; Shostalovich's String Quartet No. 1 in C. Major; and an arrangement of Kern's "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes."
