George Bernard Shaw's classic comedy, Pygmalion will play Seattle Repertory Theatre Nov. 16-Dec. 20 with an opening night on Nov. 23. Pygmalion revolves around the relationship struck between phonetics professor and life-long bachelor Henry Higgins and the cockney flower girl Eliza Doolitte, whom he picks to be his "experiment" in elocution and manners. Higgins transforms Doolittle from poor flower girl into a member of high society, but she rebels at his control over her. (If this all sounds familiar, it should. The play later served as the basis for the Lerner and Loewe musical, My Fair Lady ).
Seattle Rep artistic director Sharon Ott directs Lise Bruneau (Eliza Doolittle), Andrew Heffernan (Freddy), Suzy Hunt (Mrs. Eynsford-Hill), Carol Mayo Jenkins (Mrs. Higgins), Jennifer Sue Johnson (Clara), Laura Kenny (Mrs. Pearce), Dan Kremer (Colonel Pickering), W. Francis Walters (Alfred Doolittle) and Paul Whitworth (Henry Higgins). Ensemble roles are played by John Patrick Lowrie, Kathryn Mesney, Terry Edward Moore, Michael Patten, Maren Perry and Sheryle Wells.
The design team includes Scott Bradley (sets), Lydia Tanji (costumes), Peter Maradudin (lighting) and Michael Roth (sound and original music).
