Ricky J. Martinez (artistic director) and Eileen Suarez (managing director) announced the six-show season on Aug. 23.
The Radiant, to play March 25–April 17, 2011, is billed this way: "The tempestuous, dramatic life of Marie Curie [1867-1934], one of the world's first recognized woman scientists, whose discovery and isolation of radium earned her two Nobel Prizes and revolutionized science forever, as she ushered in 'The Atomic Age' and the first cure for cancer."
Lauro is perhaps best known for her much-produced play about Vietnam War nurses, A Piece of My Heart, plus All Through the Night, Clarence Darrow's Last Trial and more.
The New Theatre's 25th anniversary season will also include Shakespeare's The Tempest (Sept. 2-19), adapted and directed by guest director John Manzelli; the Southeastern premiere of Jack Glaudini's Jack Goes Boating (Oct. 8-31); the Southeastern premiere of Rogelio Martinez's Fizz, a comedy inspired by the creation of "new Coke" (Nov. 19-Dec. 12); a title to be announced (Jan. 28-Feb. 20, 2011); and Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desre (May 20-June 12, 2011).
