It's not the Phaedra play, but A Phaedra Play, a new work by Judy Elkan, which is the latest offering at Soho Rep's ongoing "Summer Camp" theatre festival. The new play, directed by Soho Rep artistic director Daniel Aukin, reexamines Euripides' classic tragedy about a woman who lusts after her stepson, asking the question, "Is love an illness?" A Phaedra Play plays July 14-17.
"Summer Camp," produced by Stephen Rahe and Lindsay Firman, began on July 6 with a festival of one-act plays. The rest of the 1999 schedule follows:
