1998 marks the 100th year since the birth of Spanish playwright and poet Federico Garcia Lorca, who sadly disappeared during the Spanish Civil War. In honor of the occasion, a huge number of plays, homage ceremonies and other celebrations are being presented all over Spain throughout the year. Playbill On-Line will inform readers about the main events commemorating the author of Blood Wedding and The House of Bernarda Alba.
At present, there are already several plays on stage, like Yerma in the Lara Theatre in Madrid, or Lorca, which has just opened at Madrid's Mirador Theatre. The latter is based on several texts by Lorca and directed by Cristina Rota, with well-known actors and actresses as cast members, like Imanol Arias, Ana Belen, Juan Echanove and Gabino Diego.
Possibly the most important act of all took place on January 16, when the King and The Queen of Spain visited a small village in Granada where Federico Garcia Lorca was born.
