The American Theatre has quite a lot of "Annies," from the Little Orphan who sings "Tomorrow" to the tough-talking Annie Oakley, who can't get a man with a gun. But there's never been one quite like Annie Sprinkle, the former adult film actress who has been shaping her experiences in the biz into performance art for several years now. Her latest piece, having its West Coast premiere at San Francisco's Bay Front Theatre, is Annie Sprinkle's Herstory of Porn -- Reel To Real opens at Off-Broadway's P.S. 122, Oct. 14 through Nov. 1. Emilio Cubiero directs this look at 25 years in the sexual revolution, which mixes clips from some of Sprinkle's movies (she's made nearly 200) with live commentary and performance. Sprinkle explains sex-industry terms like "DP," "rainbow shower," "money shot" and "shrimping." Calling herself a "metamorphosexual, sex-positive feminist" and "pleasure activist," Sprinkle is devoted to teaching acceptance of sexuality, AIDS education, and being a "sex-work pioneer."
