News Streep to Portray Julia Child in Upcoming "Julie and Julia" Film Academy Award winner Meryl Streep will portray the late culinary legend Julia Child in the upcoming film "Julie and Julia" for Columbia Pictures.

Streep will again co-star with Amy Adams: The two actresses are currently filming the screen adaptation of John Patrick Shanley's Tony-winning drama Doubt. Variety reports that Nora Ephron, Academy Award-nominated screenwriter of "When Harry Met Sally," and "Sleepless in Seattle," will adapt Julie Powell's cooking memoir "Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen" for the silver screen.

Ephron will also direct the film, which concerns a 30-ish secretary in a dead end job who decides to reclaim her life by cooking each of the 524 recipes in Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" in the span of one year. She chronicles her endeavors through a blog that becomes popular among the culinary crowd. However, Julie soon learns that "simple French cooking" doesn't always translate to "easy French cooking."

Amy Adams will star as the determined secretary-turned-chef Julie, with Streep portraying culinary pioneer Julia Child. Columbia expects a 2008 start date for the picture.
