White and Pfeifer based their musical on the marriage and rule of Akhenaten and Nefertiti, "the famous seventeen year old pharaoh and queen of Egypt, whose changes in politics and religion brought about violent court intrigue and an ultimate schism in Egyptian rule – an upheaval that led to the brief rule of King Tut."
The Oct. 25 readings will be led by Umoh (Ragtime) and Smith (American Idiot). The cast will also feature Darius de Haas (Children of Eden), Brynn Williams (Bye Bye Birdie) and stage veteran William Parry (Gypsy, Sunday in the Park With George).
The ensemble will include Bernard Dotson, Robi Hager, Catherine Cheng Jones, Emily Drennan, Kent Overshown, Joe Paparella and Michael Wieser.
Jonathan Stuart Cerullo, who also staged the York readings of The White Rose, will direct.
