Susan Egan joins the cast of Cabaret on June 17 as the new Sally Bowles, replacing Mary McCormack. Egan will play the role through Nov. 2.
The announcement of Egan came as a surprise, considering that days before she had been announced for the Broadway cast of the revised Sondheim revue, Putting It Together with Carol Burnett. Egan had appeared in that show when it played an engagement at L.A.'s Mark Taper Forum.
Egan came to the attention of theatregoers when she originated the role of "Belle" in Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Other stage credits include State Fair and Bye, Bye Birdie with Tommy Tune. Her film and television credits include the voice of "Meg" in Disney's "Hercules" and guest roles on "The Drew Carey Show," "Party of Five," "All My Children" and "Loving."
Past Sallys in the Roundabout revival include: Natasha Richardson (who won the 1998 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical), Jennifer Jason Leigh and Mary McCormack.
