Awards Susan Stroman to Receive Louis Auchincloss Prize From Museum of the City of New York

Vanessa Williams, Robyn Hurder, Karen Ziemba, and more will be on hand to perform at the awards ceremony.

Tony-winning director-choreographer Susan Stroman will be awarded the 2023 Louis Auchincloss Prize from the Museum of the City of New York. Stroman will be honored with a special evening at the museum December 4, with performances from Vanessa Williams, Robyn Hurder, Karen Ziemba, Josh Breckenridge, Debra Monk, Brad Oscar, and Anna Uzele.

"Each fall, the Museum of the City of New York presents the Louis Auchincloss Prize to writers and artists whose work is inspired by and enhances the five boroughs of New York City,” says Museum Director and President Stephanie Hill Wilchfort in a statement. “We’re absolutely thrilled to honor Susan Stroman’s talent and legacy with this year’s award.”

"I see myself as a storyteller, using the power of theatre to share stories from the stages of the greatest city in the world,” adds Stroman. “It’s truly an honor to be recognized with this prestigious award by the Museum of the City of New York—NYC’s storyteller for more than 100 years.”

Past Auchincloss Prize winners include Anna Deveare Smith, Faith Ringgold, Robert Stern, Jason Robert Brown, Whoopi Goldberg, Gloria Steinem, Michiko Kakutani, Tony Kushner, Wynton Marsalis, Toshiko Mori, and Philip Glass.

Stroman is a five-time Tony-winning director and choreographer, known for her work on such plays and musicals as Crazy for YouContactThe Scottsboro BoysThe ProducersPOTUS, and, most recently, New York, New York.
