News Swados' Political Subversities to Play Joe's Pub May 2 Political Subversities, an evening of irreverent songs and monologues staged by Elizabeth Swados, will return to Joe's Pub May 2.

Swados – the Tony-nominated writer of Runaways and Alice in Concert – will join her band of writers, musicians and actors to present their latest political cabaret at the downtown venue at 11:30 PM.

Political Subversities is a collection of scenes, monologues and songs that depict the "absurdity of our world as it is now as well as the scandalous and outrageously stupid behavior of the people who inhabit it."

The May 2 installment will touch on the U.S. recession as well as favorite pieces from Political Subversities' previous sold-out Joe's Pub engagements. Other presentations have included send-ups of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey.

Political Subversities features Utkarsh Ambudkar, Bart Atsin, Danielle Levanas, Vella Lovell, Preston Martin, Grace McLean, David Skeist and Emma Tattenbaum-Fine. Five-time Tony nominee Swados directs with Kris Kukul serving as the evening's musical director.

Elizabeth Swados earned Tony nominations for her work as composer, lyricist, book writer, choreographer and director of Runways. She has penned book, music and lyrics for Alice in Concert as well as Lullabye and Goodnight, The Trilogy, Nightclub Cantata and Groundhog.
