Symphonie Fantastique, the OBIE Award-winning, genre-defying aquatic theatrical experience, celebrates its one-year anniversary March 28 at the HERE Arts Center in Manhattan's SoHo.
Puppeteer Basil Twist's all-underwater spectacle, in which feathers, mirrors, mylar, fringe, fishing lures and more are choreographed in a 500 gallon tank of water, has both fascinated and mystified theatregoers.
Set to the music of Hector Berlioz, Symphonie Fantastique won an OBIE and was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience.
A second production opened May 5 in Zeum Theatre in San Francisco. The run there uses a tank more than twice the size of the one at HERE. The California production require five puppeteers, rather than the four used in New York.
