Summerford will play Sheila opposite the Berger of Rent's Ryan Link in the semi-staged concert, which will run Aug. 3-7 at the Mahaiwe in Great Barrington and Aug. 10-14 at the Berkshire Music Hall in Pittsfield, MA. Hair focuses on a group of hippies — called The Tribe — in New York City in the late 1960's, and gives voice to their passions and frustrations in loose scenes and interactions, including a rant against war, an embrace of free love (including a group nude scene) and odes to nature, life, drugs and multiculturalism. Book and lyrics are by Gerome Ragni and James Rado, music is by Galt MacDermot. Tom O'Horgan was the original director. Heather MacRae, Melba Moore, Keith Carradine and Joe Morton were among performers in the early Broadway run of the show, at the Biltmore Theatre.

On Broadway Denise Summerford has been seen in Taboo, The Rocky Horror Show and Saturday Night Fever. The singer-actress was also part of the touring casts of Grease!, The Who's Tommy and Company. Summerford's other theatre credits include They're Playing Our Song, Beehive, Caligula and Andru's Head. She has also performed concerts at Avalon and The Zipper and Belt Theatres.

The Barrington Stage Company is located in Sheffield, MA. The box office can be reached by calling (413) 528-8888. Visit www.barringtonstageco.org for more information.
