News Tazewell Thompson Directs Old Settler at Westport, July 16-Aug. 2 A cast has been announced for the Westport Country Playhouse's new production of John Henry Redwood's The Old Settler, the first staging of the drama since Redwood died on June 17. The show will open on July 16 and run until Aug. 2.

Tazewell Thompson will direct a cast featuring Brenda Thomas, Tina Fabrique, Edward O'Blenis and Cherise Boothe. Thompson previously directed Thomas in Constant Star. Fabrique has acted in such Broadway productions as Ragtime and Bring in da Noise, Bring in da Funk. Boothe recently appeared in the lauded Off-Broadway revival of Jean Genet's The Blacks. The Old Settler has been a steady regional hit over the last few years. It has been produced around the country by Geva Theatre, McCarter Theatre, Virginia Stage Company, Long Wharf Theatre and Pasadena Playhouse. In New York, it was seen at Primary Stages. The story concerns two sisters in 1940s Harlem.

John Henry Redwood was also the author of No Niggers, No Jews, No Dogs, another play showcased on many regional stages. He died unexpectedly on June 17 in Philadelphia.
