Playwrights Theatre in Madison, New Jersey, presents the world premiere of D.W. Gregory's The Good Girl Is Gone, concerning a daughter and her estranged mother, Feb. 2-19. Opening is Feb. 3.

The company's artistic director John Pietrowski directs a cast that includes Beth Glover, Jim Ligon, Anne Petersen, Anne Popolizio and Jake Speck.

"Preparing for a difficult reunion, Lulu Bender has just checked into a run down motel," according to Playwrights Theatre notes. "There, her mind traverses between the present and a difficult past. Can Lulu face and forgive her mother who ran out on the family years before?"

"While the travails of a dysfunctional family may not seem to be the place to mine for humor, Dolores [Gregory] finds a way to make us laugh, yet still feel the pain and loss experienced by children subjected to difficult family situations," director Pietrowski said in production notes.

Gregory's play The Good Daughter was developed at Playwrights Theatre and was produced at New Jersey Repertory Company in Long Branch October 2003. Her short play, Why We Invented God, was the 2004 winner of the George R. Kernodle One-Act Playwriting Competition and a finalist for the Heideman Award from Actors Theatre of Louisville. She also penned Radium Girls and The Good Daughter.

The creative team of The Good Girl Is Gone includes Bettina Bierly (costumes), Richard Turick (set), Richard Currie (lighting), Jeff Knapp (sound), Danielle Constance (properties). For more information, call (973) 514-1787 ext. 30 or visit
