News The Hard-Knock Life: Annie Begins Casa Mañana Run Dec. 23 The Casa Mañana production of Annie, starring Kelsey Lee Smith as the irrepressible redheaded orphan, begins performances at Bass Performance Hall Dec. 23.

Norb Joerder directs and choreographs the Charles Strouse, Martin Charnin and Thomas Meehan Depression-era musical that will play a limited engagement through Dec. 28.

In addition to Smith in the title role, Annie stars Ellen Harvey (Thou Shalt Not, Music Man, Mamma Mia!) as Miss Hannigan, Brian Mathis (Jesus Christ Superstar national tour) as Oliver Warbucks, Amy Bodnar (Ragtime, Oklahoma!) as Grace Farrell, Laurent Giroux (Chicago, Pippin) as Rooster, Stacey Harris (Cinderella national tour) as Lily St. Regis, Joel Ables as Bert Healey, Danielle Erin Rhodes (NYMF's Back Home) as Star to Be, Doug LoPachin as Drake and Willy Welch as F.D.R.

The cast also features Sarah Youngblood, Taylor O'Toole, Elise Moran Christiansen, Lauren Diane Craine, Erika Pope, Molly Franco, Kenady Shope, Mallory Brophy, Lauren Hughes, Millicent French, Autumn Hartt and Chloe Voeris as the orphans.

The ensemble comprises Ashley Adamek, Brian Hoffman, Missy Matherne, Christopher Ryan, J. David Anderson, Marnee Hollis, Kristi Rowan, Kelly Holmes, Frances Bordlee, Lois Sonnier Hart, Joel Abels, Jackson Ross Best, Jr., Christopher Deaton and Aaron Thacker.

Eugene Gwozdz musical directs the production with costume design by Jeffery Meeks, scenic design by Kenneth Foy, sound design by Jonathan Parke and wig design by Patricia Delsordo. Featuring a score by Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, with a book by Thomas Meehan, Annie nabbed seven Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Score for its 1977 debut starring Andrea McArdle in the title role. The production ran for 2,377 performances and has enjoyed numerous national tours and a Broadway revival.

Popular songs from the production include "Tomorrow," "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile," "Maybe," "Little Girls," "It's the Hard-Knock Life" and "Easy Street."
