By some quirky coincidence, British playwright Shelagh Stephenson's play The Memory of Water is having its U.S. and Canadian premiere on the same date, Nov. 10. While Manhattan Theatre Club hosts the New York debut, Ontario's Tarragon Theatre is taking care of Canadian audiences.
The Memory of Water began previews at the Tarragon on Nov. 4. The drama stars Martha Burns, Peter Cockett, Nancy Palk, Randy Hughson, Kristen Thomson and Corrine Koslo. Jackie Maxwell directs.
Stephenson's play had its premiere at the Hampstead Theatre in London and was subsequently produced at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre. It concerns three daughters who have just lost their mother, of whom none of them have particularly fond memories. But then, they're not so crazy about each other either, or their husbands and boyfriends for that matter.
