The 52nd Annual Theatre World Awards, recognizing outstanding new acting talent in Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, were announced May 6.

The awards are given by Theatre World, the annual yearbook of photos and production information, published by Applause Books.

Here are the 1996 winners:

Jordan Baker of Suddenly Last Summer
Joo Hee Choi of The King and I
Karen K. Cody of Master Class
Viola Davis of Seven Guitars
Kate Forbes of School for Scandal
Michael McGrath of Swinging on a Star
Alfred Molina of Molly Sweeney
Timothy Oliphant of The Monogamist
Adam Pascal of Rent
Lou Diamond Phillips of The King and I
Daphne Rubin-Vega of Rent
Brett Tabisel of Big

An award for Outstanding Ensemble Debut was made to the cast of An Ideal Husband. The awards will be bestowed in a May 20 ceremony at the Roundabout Theatre on Broadway.

Photos of the winners will be published in the 1995-96 Theatre World yearbook.

Awards were chosen by a committee consisting of: Clive Barnes of The New York Post, Frank Scheck of the Christian Science Monitor and Stage, Michael Sommers of the Newhouse Papers and the Newark Star-Ledger, Douglas Watt of The Daily News, and John Willis of Theatre World.
