News Tickets for West Coast Premiere of Spring Awakening, in San Diego, Will Go on Sale June 22 Tickets for the West Coast premiere engagement of the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening — at San Diego's Balboa Theatre — will go on sale June 22.

The August engagement in San Diego is being billed as the "pre-tour" run of Spring Awakening. It will play the Balboa Aug. 15-31 prior to moving to San Francisco's Curran Theatre Sept. 4-Oct. 12 (the official tour launch). Nevertheless, the San Diego engagement marks the West Coast premiere of the rock musical.

Tour casting has not been announced for the Tony Award-winning coming-of-age musical penned by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater. An official announcement is expected shortly.

Individual online ticket sales begin at 8 AM June 22 at Broadwaysd.com. Phone and box office ticket sales will begin at 10 AM on June 23 by calling (619) 570-1100. The Balboa Theatre is located at 868 Fourth Avenue at E Street in San Diego.

Tickets for the San Diego engagement of Spring Awakening will also be available through Ticketmaster.

Spring Awakening features direction by Michael Mayer, choreography by Bill T. Jones, book and lyrics by Steven Sater and a score by Duncan Sheik.

Songs featured in the Tony-winning score are "All That's Known," "And Then There Were None," "Blue Wind/Don't Do Sadness," "Left Behind," "Mamma Who Bore Me," "My Junk, "The Bitch of Living," "The Dark I Know Well," "The Guilty Ones," "The Song of Purple Summer," "The Word of Your Body," "Those You've Known," "Totally Fucked," "Touch Me," "Whispering" and "The Mirror-Blue Night."

Spring Awakening's cast album recently earned a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.

The musical made its world premiere Off-Broadway at the Atlantic Theater Company in June 2006. Spring Awakening transferred to Broadway the following November, where it continues to play at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre.

The Broadway production of Spring Awakening currently stars Kyle Riabko (Melchior), Alexandra Socha (Wendla), Blake Bashoff (Moritz), Skylar Astin (Georg), Lilli Cooper (Martha), Blake Daniel (Ernst), Brian Charles Johnson (Otto), Emma Hunton (Ilse), Phoebe Strole (Anna), Matt Doyle (Hanschen), Remy Zaken (Thea), Christine Estabrook (Adult Women), Glenn Fleshler (Adult Men), Gerard Canonico, Alice Lee, Eryn Murman and Matt Shingledecker.
