As previously reported, director-choreographer Kenny Ortega will direct the film that also includes Dove Cameron as Mal, Mitchell Hope as Ben and Booboo Stewart as Jay.

The film is not billed as a musical, but it has been reported that there will likely be singing in the picture. Josann McGibbon and Sara Parriott are writing the script to the film that is aiming for a 2015 premiere.

The film, which will be set in a present-day kingdom, will focus on good-hearted Ben (son of the Beast and Belle), who is poised to take over the throne. His first act as King is to offer a chance of redemption to the children of some major villains. They include Carlos (son of Cruella De Vil), Mal (daughter of Maleficent), Evvie (daughter of the Evil Queen) and Jay (son of Jafar), who have all been imprisoned on a forbidden island with other villains from the Disney canon.

Chenoweth won the Tony Award in 1999 for her performance in You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. She was nominated in 2004 for her performance as Glinda in the original company of Wicked and has also been seen on Broadway in Steel Pier, Epic Proportions, The Apple Tree and Promises, Promises. She is also known for film and television work, including "Glee," "Pushing Daisies," "The West Wing" and the recent ABC series "GCB." She has also been a guest judge on "American Idol."
