The project, from ABC Studios, Cinema Gypsy and Principato Young, is written by Kenya Barris and is loosely based on his personal experiences.
Anderson will play an upper-middle-class black man who "struggles to raise his children with some sense of cultural identity despite constant contradictions and obstacles coming from his liberal wife, old-school father and his own assimilated, color-blind kids." Fishburne will play Anderson's father.
Fishburne won a 1992 Tony Award for his performance in Two Trains Running and was Tony-nominated for Thurgood. He has also been seen on Broadway in The Lion in the Winter.
