PlayBlog Tony Winner Michael Grandage Discusses Upcoming Broadway Evita Casting Michael Grandage, Tony winner as Best Director of a Play for Red, said a highlight of his upcoming Broadway project, a 2012 revival of Evita, will be the performance of Elena Roger, "the first Argentinean woman " to play the title role in the U.S.

He said her performance in his 2006 production of Evita at Donmar Warehouse in London, which she will repeat on Broadway, gives the production "an authenticity we could take much further" than previous productions.

Grandage said he's working with composer Andrew Lloyd Webber on tweaking the music for the production, the first on Broadway since the 1979 original. The 2012 revival will co-star pop singer Ricky Martin as Che.
