News Triumph of Love Makes New York Return at APAC April 25 The short-lived Broadway musical Triumph of Love gets a second chance to delight New York audiences when the musical plays the Astoria Performing Arts Center beginning April 25.

The limited engagement of the 1997 musical, based on the 1732 Pierre Marivaux farce, has lyrics by Susan Birkenhead (A . . . My Name Is Alice, Jelly's Last Jam), music by Jeffrey Stock and a book by James Magruder. The three-week limited run will conclude May 11.

In Triumph of Love, Leonide becomes smitten with handsome Agis, the rightful heir to the Grecian kingdom that was usurped by Leonide's family. In order to win his love, Leonide must bend her gender and rescue her man from his stuffed-shirt uncle and dour aunt.

The cast for Triumph of Love comprises Richard Rice Alan, Erika Amato, Abby Baum, Justin Birdsong, Philip Deyesso, Tripp Pettigrew and Ashley Speigel. Brian Swasey directs.

Triumph's team includes set designer Michael Kramer, lighting designer Erik J. Michael, costume designer Adam Coffia, and musical director Jeffrey Campos.

Songs from the musical include "Serenity," "Anything," "This Day Of Days," "If I Cannot Love," "Mr. Right," "Emotions," "The Bond That Can't Be Broken," "The Sad And Sordid Saga Of Cecile" and "You May Call Me Phocion." The 1997 Broadway staging of Triumph of Love starred Betty Buckley, F. Murray Abraham, Susan Egan, Christopher Sieber, Kevin Chamberlin, Roger Bart and Nancy Opel. The short-lived jewel of a production, lasting only 85 official performances, arrived on Broadway following engagements at Center Stage in Baltimore and Yale Repertory Theatre in New Haven, CT.

Triumph of Love plays Thursdays-Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 6 PM. Tickets are available by calling (866) 811-4111 or by visiting www.apacny.org.

APAC performances take place at the Broccoli Theater – Variety Boys & Girls Club, 21-12 30th Rd at 21st St. in Astoria, Queens.
