As previously reported, Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's Oscar-winning film musical that was later adapted for the Broadway stage, will play a pre-Broadway engagement in the Eisenhower Theater at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in January 2015 with Eric Schaeffer (Follies, Million Dollar Quartet) directing.

Schaeffer will direct the Manhattan industry reading with Vanessa Hudgens ("High School Musical"), Tony winner Victoria Clark (The Light in the Piazza) and Corey Cott (Newsies) that will also include Tony nominee Kate Burton (Hedda Gabler), Steffanie Leigh (Mary Poppins) and Tony nominee Howard McGillin (The Phantom of the Opera).

Producer Jenna Segal is overseeing the reading. 

A Seattle concert presentation of the production, which was to take place at the 5th Avenue Theatre this past May, was canceled due to scheduling conflicts. 

Casting for the reading does not reflect casting for the Kennedy Center and subsequent Broadway production. Josh Bergasse ("Smash") will choreograph.

The score includes "Thank Heaven for Little Girls," "I'm Glad I'm Not Young Anymore," "The Night They Invented Champagne," "Say a Prayer for Me Tonight," "It's a Bore," "I Remember It Well," the Oscar-winning Best Song "Gigi" and more. Lerner penned lyrics, Loewe wrote the music. The 1958 M-G-M film was based on the 1951 Broadway play by Anita Loos, who drew from the work of novelist and short story writer Colette.
